Description:
Kinnaur is defined by the green valleys, orchards, mountains, meandering rivers, and vineyards. The other name is “Land of fairytales”. The Tibetan culture is strongly influenced due to the sharing of the border with Tibet. The region remains covered with snow for 6 months. The region is divided into three administrative areas – Pooh, Nichar, and Kalpa and two valleys – Sangla Valley and the Hangrang Valley.
Sangla valley is known for the paragliding, rafting, and angling. The most beautiful region is the Kalpa. Most villages lie at an altitude of 4,000 m with their presiding deity. The region has an amazing history as it was the part of Magadha kingdom then Mauryan empire and later on Guge kingdom of Tibet. The region was once known as Sat Khund as it was divided into seven regions.
Transportation:
The public transportation is available from Shimla to Kinnaur. The distance is about 260 km and takes approx. 8 hours to reach on the four-wheeler. No flights are available directly and the nearest airport is Shimla. There are no rails available and the nearest is again Shimla via Kalka.
