Description:
The town is located on banks of River Ravi (a major tributary of the Trans-Himalayan Indus River). Chamba is known for the arts and crafts especially Pahari paintings. The district is known for the miniature paintings, Handicrafts and musical instruments. There held two Melas or Jatras (fairs) named as – “Suhi Mata Mela” and “Minjar Mela”. The other part of festivities is Kunjari Malhar, folk dances, and music performance. The traditional dress worn by Hindu women is Pashwaj.
Several monuments are built before 1846. Khajjiar is the center of attraction. It is also known as Mini Switzerland.
Transportation:
There is no rail station and airport. The nearest airport is Jammu, 120 km from Chamba. The nearest railway station is Pathankot about 120 km. HRTC public transportation is available regularly.
