Bilaspur is located 673 m (2,208 ft) above the sea level. It is the district that is famous for having the world’s biggest multipurpose project that is Bhakra Nangal Dam. The district is said to the 1st planned hill town of the country and was founded in 1663. The dam is responsible for the creation of the Gobind Sagar Lake which is famous for adventure activities, sightseeing, recreational fun, etc.
Another center of attraction is the wildlife on the banks of the lake. It is home for some endangered species Sambar, Panther, Chausinga, Wolf, Sloth bear, Nilgai, wild boar, Chinkara and Hyena. One of the “Shakti Peeths” is Naina Devi situated in Bilaspur.
